Tuesday Gesture Drawing

I only went to gestures this week, I was going to do long pose but I have to work late. Really late. but I'll take working late over no work.

Tuesday Gesture and Long Pose

I was advised that I should not use watercolor for gesture, it's hard to change and can't do much details. I guess I was hoping to do some quick shading as well with the watercolor brush but seeing the lighting set up does not favor shading, I might as well draw with pen next time.

Bunny swims in shallow pool

Bunny enjoys having a blast in very shallow pools, the kind that your tummy touches the ground when you float horizontally. This pools happens to have a bit of snakes in it. They are harmless though, and very statuesque.

Tuesday Gesture Drawing & Long Pose

I did both gesture and long pose on tuesday in our newly finished art room. It was very tiring doing both, and a very long day. I had trouble with the model's face, probably was because of out of practice for a month.

What lies ahead

It's a cliff if you can't tell from my crappy rendering. I really should do more live sketches of cliffs before I draw imaginary cliffs. There's more to the story later I just got tired shading all this.

Tuesday Gesture Drawing

There won't be tuesday night long pose for four weeks, but Gesture Drawing session at noon is still going for a bit so I checked it out. It's been ages since I did gestures, I was never very confident with it, especially with a pencil. So today I tried using brush strokes hoping the mess would blur the apparent lack of good lines... We did a bunch of 1 minutes poses and a bunch of 3 minute poses. I was completely exhausted at the end of it because it was so fast and tense.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

This is a two-week pose, so I'll be finishing the bottom half next week, taking my sweet time shading things. I already tried to draw as small as it can fit in my scanner, and it still doesn't fit!
I realized while looking at this that I have a slight proportion issue. Gotta get it right before I start shading next time.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

I bought better tools this week. A charcoal pencil PITMO B and a jar of graphite powder which came just in time for this week's sketch. It would have taken me more than 3 hours if I draw this with pencil, powder is the way to go for big coverages. And the combo of charcoal pencil and powder leave my fingers relatively clean, I no longer have to leave a sketch session looking like a Dickensian coal mine worker.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

I used charcoal pencil this time, but later found out it wasn't a very good brand, it was a bit grainy. Plus shading the big area of the back took a looong time with my little pencil tip. I could have finished drawing the whole body in 3 hours if I wasn't painstakingly scratching away with my little pencil. Must acquire better tool next time.

SketchCrawl #27

I haven't been to SketchCrawls for such a long time, so I decided to go along with this one. Apart from enduring the horrifying smell of Bart, the temperamental weather and windiness of downtown SF, and the dispiriting long line of ferry building women's bathroom, my sketches turned out not too badly. Or so my engineering husband tells me. Either that's the truth or he's trying to make up for snoring all night last night.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

This time I tried using thin watercolor to build up layers, but I'm still not keen on how it looks. I've been thinking about going to oil for awhile now, maybe I should investigate some more.

Tuesday night long pose

Flesh color and lying down pose is hard... the subtle color and value change on the skin is hard to do right. I probably should have stick with warm tones for the shadow so I don't get confused with mixing skin color with cold color, but it was too late and there's not undo or color slider.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

Same model from last week, same pose. I forgot to bring my watercolor sketch book, so I had to scavenger for thicker paper and pray it will not buckle with water. Really should double check my equipments before I leave home.

Moonlight Sonata

It''s not very good, but I have to keep going when I make mistakes otherwise I'll never have a video done.

Gnossienne 2

My attempt to keep learning piano remotely, uploading video for my teacher to look over.

Tuesday Night Long Pose

My drawing is bigger than my scanner, but this is the important bits.

And the wild thing says

Don't go
I'll eat you up
I love you so

Tuesday night long pose

The model is way more beautiful than this, I didn't do her justice.

Bunny was watching a snail traipsing along the flower pot, doing a tour-de-pot. A winner can be expected by tomorrow.
